They Mock…We Worship
“After they had mocked Him, they took the scarlet robe off Him and put His own garments back on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.” (Matthew 27:31)
Hello everyone! I hope you are all ready for this incredible weekend where we remember Christ’s crucifixion and His resurrection! Personally, I can’t wait until church so I can preach on the power of His resurrection, and of course watching all the little ones hunt for Easter eggs after service.
My wife and I were reading the above passage of Scripture in the context of the crucifixion account in Matthew as we pondered on the soon approaching Good Friday. When we read it out loud it hit me regarding the mocking of Christ that that is what the world does so much today–mocking Jesus Christ. As usual there will be many TV programs this week dedicated to trying to put doubt in people’s minds that Jesus was really the Messiah and that He really rose from the dead. It’s amazing how they get by with that, but if it had to do with another religion’s belief system things would not go so well. Yet, the name Christ is used as a cuss word, ungodly comedy sketches are written about Him, TV skeptics laugh at Him, TV shows and movies ridicule Him and misrepresent Him, and people are even trying to take Him out of Christmas and Easter. Amazing! The most influential, powerful, history changing, life altering person that ever walked on the face of the earth and they still mock. If I didn’t realize that Bible says it would be this way it may bug me more. People’s unbelief is perfectly consistent with the Scripture: “but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness” (1 Corinthians 1:23).
We on the other hand, those who know Him personally as Savior and Lord, our mocking days are over, and now we worship! We worship Him because of who He is–the God-Man, the only Savior of the world, the Messiah, the King of Kings, the resurrected (factually proven) Christ, God in the flesh, and the Lord of our lives. We worship Him because He truly has changed our lives! Jesus, who is not just a prophet, but divinity, the only way to heaven, and the One who strengthens, guides, heals, and comforts, has become our utmost object of worship! Let the world mock, but as for me and my house, we are going to worship Him in Spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
I want to challenge you today in this short Weekly Word to worship Him louder, harder, and more effectively than the world mocks Him. Don’t ever be afraid to mention His name. Don’t ever be ashamed to be named as one of His followers. Don’t ever let the world around you mock Him louder than you worship Him. It’s time we turned the tables. Our worship is not just to be done inside the walls of our churches on Sunday mornings! We need to take it outside the walls and into the world we live in–to the workplace, to school, and so on. We need to worship him by the way we talk, act, react, and think. We need to let those who mock Him see that we are proud to call Him Lord. We need to step up and be counted as those who consider Him worthy of all of our praise! And in the long run this may be the very thing that those who mock Jesus need to see. Maybe they just need to see some believers who are truly willing to stand in the face of opposition and not cower, but who shout from the depth of their hearts, “I love you Jesus, you are are worthy of all my praise and worship!” The world shouts for their gods, let’s lift our voices and be heard when it comes to worshipping our true and living God!
God Bless you this week and remember Friday, the Power of the Cross, and Sunday, the Power of His Resurrectiuon!
